Ambassador C. Trevor Clarke (Barbados)
B.i Cluster 1 (consequences/legal effects of registrations and participation)
142. The representative of China said that, as a co-sponsor of TN/C/W/52, his delegation supported the key parameters for a register as explained by the EC delegation. He thanked the European Communities for having explained and clarified the proposal and endorsed the statements made by Switzerland, Brazil and India. 143. His delegation was of the view that the GI multilateral register should cover GIs for all products to correct the current imbalance in the TRIPS Agreement, and that the opportunity to benefit from the GI register should be given to all Members. Moreover, special and differential treatment should be fully addressed in any solution. He reiterated that the three issues as set out in document TN/C/W/52 should be dealt with in parallel. This was the only pragmatic way to find a compromise and a final solution.
