Minutes - TRIPS Council Special Session - View details of the intervention/statement

Ambassador C. Trevor Clarke (Barbados)
B.ii Meeting of 28 October 2009, p.m.
99. The Chairman said this kind of example pointed to an idea already raised by one of his predecessors of some shared responsibility. There could be some process requiring the EC to put these 10,000 names before a WTO body, the TRIPS Council for example, which would then examine them and agree on what would clearly meet the definition under the TRIPS Agreement and thereby save the burden on other countries, in particular the smaller ones, from having to go through the same list of 10,000 names. As suggested by his predecessor, such an exchange or interaction could possibly take place before the information was recorded in the register.
The Special Session took note of the statements made.
