The representative of Morocco recalled that, well before the Doha Ministerial Conference, his delegation had on several occasions expressed its wish to see the system expanded to products other than wines and spirits. With regard to the discussion on the multilateral system, his delegation would endorse a two-stage system where notification was equivalent to filing an application. The duration of this procedure should be long enough for Members, including developing countries, to examine all notifications in the context of the multilateral system. This first stage should therefore precede registration, which would correspond to the moment from which Members had to ensure in their territory the effective protection of the registered GI.
