The representative of Hungary assured the delegations of New Zealand and the United States that his delegation did not wish to call into question Members' rights under Article 1.1 of the TRIPS Agreement. He had raised the questions with a view to better understanding how, under the currently functioning systems, Members would and could establish eligibility for protection in conformity with the relevant provisions under Section 3. His delegation believed that such an understanding was needed for Members to have a clearer view of what kind of opposition system was needed at the multilateral level to filter out GIs that did not fit the provisions of Section 3.
