C.3.b.iii Possible role of the Secretariat
118. The representative of the Secretariat pointed out that there were a large number of notification procedures in the WTO. The Secretariat quite often received notifications which for instance were in some way incomplete or apparently not in accordance with the procedures. What it did was to enter into contact with the notifying country to discuss the matter. Invariably, the notifying country welcomed questions of that kind being brought to its attention and often amended the notification in consequence. He pointed out, however, that ultimately it was the notifying country which decided what it would notify and, once it had decided to proceed with its notification, the Secretariat would issue the notification as forwarded.
