125. The representative of Switzerland maintained that the objective of the system was to "facilitate" the protection of GIs. She added that the protection Switzerland was considering was the one under Articles 22 et seq. There was therefore no question of the system creating new rights or obligations for the Members. She reiterated that "to facilitate" meant that there were legal effects in the registration, that is the creation of a presumption which would have the advantage of reversing the burden of proof for Members who asked for the protection of GIs. It went without saying that in case of opposition, the issue would in most cases be determined according to the national law of the country where protection was being sought.
