The Chairperson reminded the Council that China's protocol of accession to the WTO required that, within one year of China's accession, the TRIPS Council and 15 other WTO subsidiary bodies review China's implementation and report to the General Council as part of the transitional review mechanism established under section 18 of the protocol. He imagined that, in regard to TRIPS, Members would want to conduct this review together with the Council's normal review. He suggested that the Council revert to this matter at its next meeting when it might have a better idea of the approach being taken in the WTO to fulfilling the requirements of the transitional review mechanism.
