48. The representative of Botswana associated his delegation with the statement made by Kenya on behalf of the African Group and also endorsed the statements made by Brazil, India and China. He said that a solution to public health problems would have more impact on Africa than on all the other countries. Therefore, he urged Members to demonstrate heightened political will and determination to reach consensus on this issue which had significant moral and humanitarian dimensions. He also pointed out that while the Council remained focused on the critical issue of the scope of diseases, it should avoid a roll-back on the significant achievements that it had already made.
