The Chairman said that, by means of a communication, dated 4 April 2003, the United States had requested additional consultations with the European Communities regarding the protection of trademarks and geographical indications for agricultural products and foodstuffs (IP/D/19/Add.1). The United States had indicated that this request was intended to supplement but not to replace an earlier request for consultations with the European Communities, dated 1 June 1999 (IP/D/19). Since the US request for additional consultations, the following Members had requested to join the consultations: Australia, Mexico, New Zealand, Sri Lanka, India, Argentina, Hungary, Malta, Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Cyprus, Slovenia, Turkey, Romania and the Slovak Republic (WT/DS174/4-18). 195. By means of a communication, dated 17 April 2003, Australia had requested consultations with the European Communities regarding protection of trademarks and geographical indications for agricultural products and foodstuffs (IP/D/25). The following Members had requested to join these consultations: Malta, Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Cyprus, the United States, Slovenia, New Zealand, Turkey, Mexico, Argentina, Hungary, Colombia, Romania, the Slovak Republic and Chinese Taipei (WT/DS290/2-16).
