The Chairperson recalled that Article 24.2 provided that the Council should keep under review the application of the provisions of the geographical indications section of the TRIPS Agreement, and that the first such review should take place within two years of the entry into force of the WTO Agreement. At the Council's last meeting, Chinese Taipei had presented the information that it had provided in response to the checklist of questions contained in document IP/C/13 and Addendum 1 (IP/C/W/117/Add.30 and Corr.1). The European Communities had foreshadowed that, after having studied that information, it might wish to pose questions relating to it. The Council had also discussed certain suggestions that had been made at that meeting on how to carry forward this review. The Chair had concluded that this was a matter for his successor, once elected, to reflect upon and consider after further contacts with the delegations.
