The representative of Hong Kong, China said that IP/C/W/434 focused on how best to achieve the shared objectives among Members and some of the concerns of the United States were whether the disclosure requirement could help prevent misappropriation, and about the administrative burden or cost of such a system. She said that even though a disclosure system may not completely preclude misappropriation, it could help monitor and ensure compliance with obtaining of informed consent and benefit-sharing. Her delegation looked forward to a better understanding of the implications of the various proposals from different Members and also to a sharing of Members' experiences with national disclosure requirements.
