As a country having a high degree of unique endemic flora, Turkey had an interest in preserving its genetic resources, preventing the misappropriation of genetic resources and associated traditional knowledge, and preventing the grant of erroneous patents. She welcomed the progress made in the IGC, particularly the recent consolidated legal text on IP and genetic resources. She supported the introduction of a mandatory disclosure requirement, and was open to the introduction of the principles of prior informed consent, and access and benefit sharing.
