64. The delegation of Japan would like to express our gratitude to the United States for sharing information on their "Defend Trade Secrets Act". Leakage of confidential information on essential technologies can cause significant damage to inventors and innovators, so the delegation of Japan strongly believes that it is important to enhance protection against trade secret infringements.
65. Based on this recognition, Japan has revised its Unfair Competition Prevention Act in order to enhance both criminal and civil measures that are designed to prevent significant damage caused by trade secret infringements.
66. As the delegation of Japan reported at the Council meeting this March, this revision strengthens protection against trade secrets infringements by raising fines and imposing heavier penalties. Additionally, the revision also expands the scope of protection against trade secret infringements. The delegation of Japan believes continuous efforts in this area are essential in order to combat trade secret infringements.
