The representative of Japan said that his country's technical cooperation consisted of three types: human resources development, computerization and information processing, and assistance in search and examination. The main target of its technical cooperation was the Asia-Pacific region. As an example of computerization and information processing cooperation, he reported on a project in one of the major ASEAN countries. The country had had its internet homepage installed by a Japanese corporation. He hoped that the homepage would contribute to the dissemination of intellectual property rights information to the public. He expressed his appreciation for the WIPO-WTO Joint Initiative for technical cooperation and requested the WTO Secretariat to report on the results of this initiative, in particular how many countries had expressed their need for technical cooperation under this initiative and what type of cooperation they needed.
