The Chairperson recalled that, at the Council's meetings of December 1998 and February 1999, the delegation of Cuba had informed the Council of a request it had sent to the delegation of the United States, in accordance with Article 63.3 of the TRIPS Agreement, for detailed information concerning Section 211 of the United States Omnibus Consolidated and Emergency Supplemental Appropriations Act 1998. At the Council's meeting in February 1999, the delegation of Cuba had reiterated this request on the floor of the Council, while the delegation of the European Communities had informed the Council that it had also approached the United States with a request for information on this matter. A response from the United States to the request from Cuba had been circulated in document IP/C/W/139 and additional information on this matter, that had recently been received from the United States, would be circulated shortly.
