7. The representative of Paraguay said that his delegation welcomed the suggestion to grant observer status to the WIPO in the Special Session because of its great expertise and accomplishments. With respect to the OIV's request, he said that this organization did not have observer status in the regular session of the TRIPS Council and any future granting of that status to any international organization in that session could not automatically be applied to the Special Session of the Council. The understanding of his delegation was that it depended on approval by the Special Session itself.
