133. The representative of Bolivia said that the protection of genetic resources and associated traditional knowledge should not only be covered by the CBD, but also be contemplated in the context of the TRIPS Agreement. The contract-based solution did not fully take into account the reality of misappropriation of genetic resources. It was extremely important to include the objectives of the CBD, that is, disclosure of source and provenance of genetic resources and traditional knowledge, prior informed consent and fair and equitable benefit-sharing, in the TRIPS Agreement.
