The Chairperson recalled that the WIPO and WTO Secretariats, in July 1998, had launched a Joint Initiative on Technical Cooperation to assist developing countries to meet their commitments under the TRIPS Agreement by the year 2000, and that the Council had agreed, at its meeting in December1998, to request the Secretariat to report on a regular basis on this matter.
